Statement of Purpose

Reading is for everyone!
"If a child can't learn the way we teach, maybe we should teach the way they learn." -Ignacio Estrada

I plan to have a strong sense of equity and to meet each child where they are. I want to engage my students by introducing them to different types of literature and to instill a passion for learning. I want them to be able to read between the lines on the page and to make real life connections by close reading and critical literacy. I understand that every child learns differently, so I plan to offer different types of assignments that incorporate media, readers theatre, music, and writing. Most importantly, I believe that the students, parents and I have clear communication, so I want to keep them involved as much as possible.
